Unable to join network. My iPad recognizes my home network but when I select it, it won't connect and says "unable to join network.

My network has been working fine but now when I try to go to the internet t won't connect. When I go to settings and then wi-fi. It shows my network as a selection but when I Select it it says "unable to join network".

Any ideas why it's not connecting. I have internet on my desktop computer.

Thanks,

Rick

Why's its happening and I can't say, I can suggest a couple of things to try that might work.

Sometimes just restarting or rebooting the iPad might help.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

You can try restarting/rebooting your router as well. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds then plug it in again.

Try forgetting the network ....Settings>WiFi>Tap your Network Name>Tap the blue arrow next to network name>Forget this Network. Restart your iPad and then go back to WiFi in the settings, find your network and try to join it again.

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

• Launch Settings app

• Tap on Wi-Fi

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Man oh man it's gets tiring to read the same lame ol' "reboot everything" answers to this question. I have been fighting this battle for over a year now and nobody seems to be able to answer why it occurs. Sometimes I go for months without a problem -- connecting my iPad to WiFi at work, at home, on the road, etc. Then suddenly "unable to join the network.." and then nothing will remedy the problem other than waiting for it to go away! Clearly, there is some technical issue. Multiple devices all attempting to use the same IP address perhaps? I'm not a tech geek so I can't say but you would think that someone with a bit of tech sense would have come up with a better answer than "reboot everything" by now!

The reboot answer is the answer that most people give because this does correct a lot of issues. Much like a computer needs rebooted to remove everything from RAM and start over, so do these devices. If there is possibly an app or another situation stopping it from communicating correctly, this will correct that. Now why it happens, I can't tell you, only that I get it once in a while with certain hotspots and other devices connect correctly. Seems like Apple themselves don't know what is causing it or they would have created some sort of fix for it by now. Not really worth getting all bent out of shape because someone is telling someone to restart a troubled device and offering help. You really wouldn't believe how many times this does work.

I feel like a moron, but your simple suggestion to reboot my iPad worked.

I was seriously about to go insane. My Internet/router is working fine. My iPhone is connecting to wifi with no problem. Out of nowhere, my iPad would not connect. I've read multiple conversations on here- I tried powering it off and then on. I tried unplugging my wifi while my iPad was off for about 2 minutes, plugging it back in and then powering on the iPad. I tried disabling the "recognize this network" feature. I tried turning the wifi setting on my iPad off and then on. I tried using the mobile connection and updating my iPad. I was going to be at an Apple and/or Comcast (my Internet provider) place of business tomorrow with my guns blazing, when I came across your 3 simple suggestions.

The main reason I feel like a moron? Well, I knew how to restart my iPad, but had no idea about rebooting it. I win.

So hopefully if there is a fellow moron out there and they have tried everything else and are at their wits end, they will see your post... Haha... Thank you!!! I will now not be seen signing myself in to the nearest hospital claiming insanity. Well, at least not over my iPad. 😉

I used to be just like you- I wanted to talk with someone and have them tell me what to do. Nowadays, I would rather sit and read conversations and not have to hold a phone (often hot) up to my ear, go through automated options, wait (often for a while) for an actual person to come on the line, deal with th possibility of a stranger wanting to (God forbid) talk to me- especially when they want to wax lyrical about their cat or ask me about (what else?) the weather where I reside, or any other fun thing that occurs when one actually calls a business.

Many are like me now and are so thankful for these conversations. Or at least are thankful when a conversation solves their issue, like this one did mine. 😉

One time my Wi-Fi connection was really bad. I didn't what I was doing, I tapped "Forget this network" and thought I just need to put the password on. But then when I want join again, it says "Unable to join the network".

I've tried to reboot my device, restart my router, on & off the airplane mode, reset network settings, and everything I found in discussion with common topic, but nothing's work. Everybody's doing fine with my Wi-Fi access.

Pleas help me.
