Of course not. Why would it be free? Warranties cover manufacturing defects, not accidental damage.

Its cuZ my friend broke his iPad 3 and then fixed it for free and he didn't buy warrienty
even if you buy warrenty then I don't believe it cover you dropping the device
If you do, you can take it to an Apple Store, and they will fix it, but not for free, there will be a charge, depending the model and what has happened to it.
On iPad 1's and 2's, accidental damage - meaning stuff you do to it, deliberately or accidentally, is not covered by the warranty. With the ipad 3, if you purchased apple care plus then it comes with 2 instances of accidental damage repair iwth a $49 fee. If you didn't purchase the apple care plus, then you're out of luck and have to fix it yourself (or pay the 'out of warranty' fee, which is 249 for an iPad 2, 299 for a 3 (not sure about the four....and those are the base prices, if you have a 64 gig wifi/3G version the out of warranty repair is more)
With your ipad 2, accidental damage is never covered. If your friend got his replaced for free, ,then he's lucky and he benefitted from a store manager who is ignoring apple's official policy.
