No, the A1429 GSM is not sold in the US.
The A1429 CDMA is only sold carrier locked.
So, cannot I go to an american Apple Store and order it, even if it may take longer to get it?
Thanks
Herrera
It is not possible to buy a model from US Apple retail stores that is not sold in the US.
No. You can't order it in a U.S. Apple Store. It is not sold in the U.S. at all. If you want an A1429 GSM, you will have to buy one in a country where they are offered for sale...
Wrong: The A1429 is also sold unlocked. And though it is the Verizon model, it works fine in Europe: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4761497
No, the A1429 is not sold unlocked in the US. The A1429 CDMA sold by Verizon may be unlocked for international GSM carriers, but that does not mean it is guaranteed to work. It certainly will not work with US GSM carriers.
The A1428 is the only unlocked iPhone5 sold in the US.
The A1429GSM is available unlocked outside of the US and Canada directly from Apple.
First: the A1429 for Verizon *is* sold without a contract at Apple Stores. (I bought one.)
And by the way, I tried the said A1429 with an AT&T SIM card at an AT&T store to check some theories and it *did* work.
The Verizon iPhone 5 is neither advertised, nor sold as an "unlocked" phone. The SIM slot is not locked down due to FCC requirements placed on Verizon in exchange for winning a spectrum auction. There are known issues when trying to use the Verizon iPhone 5 on a number of foreign networks.
Works for me. In more than 10 European networks by now.
I finnaly got it in the usa, and it is working perfectly fine here in Europe, and about 200 dollars cheaper 😉
So for the price of a round trip trans-Atlantic plane ticket, you have saved $200 on a phone that you will not be able to get serviced where you live. Makes all the sense in the world to me.
Just a question, did you bought an CDMA A1429 wich also has the GSM band for the world inside? I just want to buy one for Germany does it work there? or do I need a contract from Verizon?
My other possibility is to buy the A1428 that I can use in GER for phoneing and internet but without LTE.
What would you suggest?
Many thanks
Probably didn't pay legally required VAT and/or import duties either, failure to do which is frequently why people from Europe think that purchasing in the US is cheaper.

I know of several hundred places here in the US that this should be quoted.
