Why wont my ipad retina connect to samsung galaxy s3 via bluetooth

I have tried to connect my Samsung Galaxy S3 via bluetooth to the new ipad retina. The two give passcodes and pair ok. Both can see each other. When you try to select a photo from the Galaxy to send to the ipad the ipad suddenly declares that it cannot see the galaxy and the transfer doesn't take place. Is there something wrong or is it just an Apple aneurism. My phone talks via bluetooth to every other device I have tried.
