Iphone 5 proximity sensor Problem?

Hello,

I have the black Iphone 5, 32 GB. I just recognized that during calls the screen doesn't turn off! I thought maybe the Proximity Sensor ist not working. But then I tested the Auto Brightness and it works! So I was sure it must me a software bug or an update bug IOS 6.0.1... But then I tested my girlfriends Iphone 5 also has IOS 6.0.1 and see the screen turns off during calls!!! Do you have any idee or a solution about that? Thank you. P.S. Also the function do start Siri just putting the Iphne to your ear only works on my girlfreinds Iphone! Hope its not a hardware defect. But how I say the Auto Brightness is working on my Iphone!!!

The proximity sensor involves hardware other than the auto-brightness sensor. It sends out infrared and looks for reflections from your face. Try a Reset (Hold Sleep and Home buttons until white Apple appears). If that doesn't help, it's probably a hardware problem. Apple will replace it free.

Is there a screen protector or case on the device? If so... remove them and test again.

It's really tricky!!! I removed the screen protector and it works but only once!!! only one time! And now still not working! I dont understand that! If it's a hardware defect, why it works once after pulling down the screen protector??? really crazy!

No I didn't solve it! But I still have the warranty so I will send it for repair. A Postman will pick it up and bring it aback after 5 Days. This is the only Solution 😟

I have the same problem too. I tried to do a reset to factory setting and tried to make a call and it works, but once it goes to sleep and try to call again, there it goes again, the screen doesn't turn off.
