My son just dropped his ipad mini that he has had for 3 days and cracked the corner. What are options???

Wow I only paid $349. That is crazy. We have 7 apple products in our home and that makes me want to stop buying their products. I can't imagine that they can't replace the screen.
If you buy a car and crash it leaving the dealership; will they replace the car? If you bought AppleCare they will replace it according to the terms and conditions. A cracked screen due to a fall is not their responsibility.
No, however if you bash in your bumper and crack your windshield then you pay what it costs for a new bumper and a new windshield, not over half what the car cost. I think they should charge a reasonable amount to replace the screen. It doesn't cost $200 and I don't want a new ipad just a repair.
If the new bumper and windshield cost to repair/replace are half the cost of the car then that is what you will pay.
Take it up with Apple if you don't like their pricing structure. It will cost you what they charge.

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
