Flagged emails in subfolders do not appear in the flagged folder

IOS 6.0.2. If I flag an email that's in a subfolder (all IMAP and on the server), they show as flagged in the folder, but they don't appear in the list of flagged emails. This same scenario does work when I do that same thing on my iMac and MacBook Pro, they show in the flagged folder there, but not on my iPhone.

I submitted a bug report to Apple Developer Bug Reporting on this on 3/11/2014, over a year ago. On 3/14/2014 I got a response stating that this bug report is a duplicate of another issue and would be closed. So evidently someone inside/outside of Apple had already submitted a similar request. However, with all the releases we've seen since then, they have not fixed the issue. Here are the "steps to reproduce" that I submitted originally:

1 flag an email in inbox.

2 go to flag folder to confirm email shows up.

3 flag an email in another folder, not inbox.

4 go to flag folder, only inbox flag emails appear.

I wonder if a) they actually understand the nature of the defect, and b) if their defect queue and prioritization keep pushing this issue to the bottom of the list. Either way, I would have expected that it got into a production release by now.

Just sent a request to Apple. Feel free to do the same (included message below, welcome to copy/paste!)

It's great that using Apple's native Mail app gives more functionality across products. But those added features fall flat when Mail doesn't work well on its own - even for basic workflows.

For instance: Why does the "Flagged" filter in Mail for iOS only show the messages that are in my Inbox? I mean,

that's the whole point of flagging a message, right? To be able to find it easily, regardless of what folder it's in. My Mac shows flagged messages in any folder. I expect filters to work the same across devices.

It shouldn't be so hard to

find a message again after moving it to a different folder. Please fix this functionality. It's been requested since 2013.

I did some searching and I spoke with Apple. It appears that flagged mail behaves differently on an iOS device. Only flagged messages in the inobx appear in the flagged folder. Apple suggested that this might be intended behavior. I told them I can't imagine any reason why I wouldn't want my flagged messages to appear in the flagged folder.

I see that too, but it is searching inboxes only, and the results are flagged emails in inboxes, not flagged messages that were placed in subfolders in Apple Mail on my iMac.

UPDATE: I see that it does eventually find the flagged emails in the other mailboxes. It is a workaround, but not the functionality I want. It also finds any email with the word flagged. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have just sorted all my mail into subfolders, and am now experiencing the same problem. This essentially makes flagging the email useless to me, as I have to search for them anyway.

I've submitted a bug report as well, in the hopes that the more people who submit a problem, it will get noticed.

Thanks for the workaround in the meantime. Searching for "flagged" in 'All Mailboxes' seems to do the trick.

Here in Germany it's even worse. We do not have an equivalent for the term "flagged", instead the term "markiert" is used, which would be "marked" in english. Everybody will immediately agree that if you search for the term "marked" you'd receive a whole lot of hits in return, because this is a much more common term than "flagged". So this search would bring up many irrrelevant rresults.

It is Nov2017 and High Sierra is still not delivering. I work with flags a lot and I organize my emails accordingly. Flagged emails in the Drafts folder do not appear in the flags folder, even though the folder shows me the correct number of flagged messages - they just do not appear in the flags folders!

And, I used to be able to work within the flags folder and edit draft (flagged) messages from within there - now when I do get the odd message to appear in the folder, I can't edit it anymore, I have to go look for the original.

At one point some messages would appear in the flags folder and others - not. I seem to see only Inbox flagged messages.

It all worked fine in Mountain Lion until I was forced to upgrade. All upgrades are such a pain with all the bugs.
