That's up to Google. The iPhone ones work, just don't look as good.
Google has added it to the App Store so it is just a matter of downloading it now.

As well, the Google map apps is a stand-alone App and does not integrate.
The Apple Maps is a foundation app that links/integrates to the other Apple apps and services running on your IPAD as required (ie Find my IPAD). It cannot be removed and so it is always working for you.
I also find the Apple maps satisfactory for my needs.

Well, looking in the App Store on the iPad, I see Google Earth and a bunch of other map apps, but not Google Maps. Are you sure it's available for download? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Look in the iPhone apps, not the iPad ones.

No but iPhone apps on an iPad only appear iPhone sized unless you zoom in with the 2X button. They are then quite pixielated.

So, to be clear, there is in fact no iPad app for Google Maps? How is this possible? This whole Maps debacle is such a huge fail.

There is no iPad-optimised google maps app, google have so far only made an iPhone-optimised version - which will work on the iPad. Or there are other map apps e.g. Nokia's Here Maps
