The iPad power adapter is perfect for both devices. The iPhone power adapter is technically insufficient to normally charge the iPad. It will work, but very slowly, and only if the iPad is in sleep/lock mode.

Means using iPad power adapter to charge iPhone won't hurt for iphone battery life right?

The iPhone will be fine. iPad power adapters are approved for use to charge iPhones.
