How do you make ipad wound work while it's connected to a computer monitor through an Apple TV?

I currently purchased an Apple TV, a computer monitor(specifically acer 23 inch), and a ipad. They are connected to each other but since it's a computer monitor, there's no sound coming out when my ipad is connected to the monitor. Is there anyway I can still view my ipad or macbook screen on my computer monitor but make the sound come from either ipad or macbook? In other words, i can only connect the viewing not sounding?
