How much does it cost to replace the glass on the back of an iPhone 4?

Today, I accidentally dropped my iPhone 4, and discovered that the glass on the back had shattered. My phone is still under the one-year warranty, by I've got a small problem: I don't live anywhere near an official Apple store. My town only has licensed retailers. (Like the phone company I got the thing from)

What are my options in this case? Since I obviously can't walk into a store and get it fixed, can it still be sent into Apple and have the back replaced? Or would that be cost prohibitive?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

Other stuff: If it isn't covered by warranty, or just too plain expensive, some tips on cases to buy and whether or not sticking duct tape on the back will cover it up would be nice too!

basically you can get an out of warranty replacement ,as new,

for $149 in US exchange and there is a mail in service

similar price in other countries

Apple do not repair all refurbishments are done in factory conditions

I live in Canada, but to clarify: I cannot get the back of my iPhone replaced for free?

Because if not, I'll just cover the back up, and let it be...

accidental damage is not covered by the Apple warranty.

And try by an other site to buy the back panal (back side of iPhone glass).

Any unauthorised tampering will invalidate what is left of warranty

ie anyone other than Apple and remove eligibility for any future

out of warranty replacement

For now, I've just covered the worst of it with tape, and put a case on it...

I'll be going to New York City in March, and I'll take it to the Apple Store there to see if they'll replace it for me.

warranty is not international ,unless you purchased in US

They wouldn't even be able to just do a simple hardware replacement for the cracked glass? I'm not interested in completely replacing my iPhone-aside from the cracked glass, it works just fine.

I read that if it's your first time, they'll only charge about $30, so it's still worth going in to check out my options while I'm in NYC.

No, they will not replace your whole iPhone for $30. However, if I understand correctly, you are trying to replace the back glass, not the front, which other posters may have misunderstood. The back glass on its own can be replaced for $29 USD.
