My iPod Touch is disabled and says "connect to iTunes" but iTunes wont...

My son has a new iPod Touch (4th gen) that we've haven't synced with iTunes before. Now he has forgotten his password and the iPod has locked up. The screen says "connect to iTunes" but when we try, iTunes (version 11) says "can't connect because the iPod is locked with a passcode".

What do we do now?

iPod touch, Windows 7, iTunes wont connect to iPod

You have to reset it to factory conditions and, if you have a backup on iTunes, if you connect it you will have the possibility to recover you data.
