iPad 4 3G bought in US, using in India

Hello every one,

I plan to get an iPad 4 + 2g (ATT) from the US and use it in India with a local carrier. Will this work?

I read on the internet that people had trouble getting the iPad 2 to detect a local carrier if they HAVENT setup the ipad to use ATT's data plans in the US.Is this happening with iPad 4 as well?

Any help is much appreciated as I'm really confused.

Thanks!

iPad

Do you mean 3G or 4G? In any case, the AT&T model is GSM and will work with any 3G operator globally. If you meant and intend to use the 4G LTE connection then you will need to check that apple supports your operator of choice back in India.a look here: http://www.apple.com/ipad/LTE/

The WiFi will work anywhere of course.

Be aware that your warranty may not be good in India though you can always opt for AppleCare which I believe is Global.

Hi Alfred,Thanks for the response.

I meant 3G. 4G is not yet popular in India.

I'm aware that AT&T model is GSM and it should, in theory work everywhere. But I see that some people who bought iPad 2(back in 2011) had this issue where they had to have activated the AT&T 3g plan in the US, otherwise the local carrier plan was not working for them.

Just wondering if this is the case for iPad 4 as well.

Also, does the AT&T iPad 3g version come with any inbuilt carrier 3g plan? or does one have to sign up for a plan after buying (I know it comes with a micro sim).

Thanks a ton.

None of the iPads come carrier locked or with a built in plan. You should be able to drop in a SIM and go. 3G issues are likely caused by trying to activate on an operator using unsupported operator 3G technology or frequencies. Check that your operator uses the same as the iPad. Look at the US iPad specs here: http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
