ios 6.1.3 update: all mail apps stopped working, gmail accounts

since updating to 6.1.3 on my ipad 3, i cannot access my gmail accounts via mail apps - both apple's mail app, and my google gmail app. i have the outgoing mail server as smtp.gmail.com, i havent got icloud for my mail, data is push on manual fetch.

i also did the ios 6.1.3 upgrade for my iphone 5, but i have not had the same problem in that device.

this seems to be a serious bug with the ios 6.1.3 upgrade, and i note a lot of discussion inline about it, but no sure solution.

ipad 3, wifi+vz lte.

anyone have an idea how to fix this?

If, for some reason, your email accounts got corrupted during the install then delete them and set them up again.

I have had no problems with GMail after installing iOS 6.1.3.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

thanks jim, tried that, cant set them up again after deleting them. no prob on my iphone, only on the ipad. the email accounts are not corrupted, something else is, only since 6.1.3 upgrade. can i go back to the prior ios version? no tolerence for mail not working, its been days, and i'm not the only one here with this problem.

thanks tom. i've tried those things several times. no change. i cannot set up my gmail account at all after deleting it. the settings app just quits when i try, same as the mail app when i open it (before i deleted it).

Try a reset:

Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple logo.

You can't go back. In any event your problem probably has nothing to do with iOS 6.1.3.

Interested in why you think 6.1.3 isn't the problem. I have a slightly different prob since 6.1.3. My Exchange, Hotmail, yahoo and iCloud accounts take an age to update. Before 6.1.3 they were instant. The "twirling circle" is now a permanent feature, have tried all the iPad resets, shutdown and removal/reinstatement of accounts to no avail. Roll on 6.1.4. Apple need a new testing team. Never seen this prob before. Meanwhile my Windows 7 desktop sails through and delivers while the apple smashes to earth!

It happenned the same to me and I have and iPhone 4S. I tried all the suggestions many people suggested before and nothing changed. The only thing missed to make it was restore the iphone with the hope I had the same iPhone I bought (I mean with the original iOS).

However for my surprise I got the iPhone I bought but with iOS 6.1.3!!!!!!!!! OMG I couldn't believe it, but when i set up my GMail e-mail accounts all was fine, everything ran OK.

The only bad thing about this was the time I spent making backups of my pictures, files associated with some apps, doing "print screen" to each screen of my apps and the worst was restoring all these pictures, files and the apps in the same order in my restoring iPhone..... in total 6 hours........ dissapointing but I solved the problem.

I hope this solution helps to all of you.
