How can I store files from laptop onto ipad?

hi I have a lot of files in my laptop and need them on my ipad I don't know how to store them ie; file my resume so it can be attached when I apply for a job on my ipad. Also have files that I send to clients and need to keep going,back to my laptop. I did find,the app which allows me to make documents but still don't know how to store them? Greatful for help thanks
