iPhone 5 lock button not working

My lock button takes 3 or 4 attempts to lock, and you have to push it hard and at an angle to get it to work, anyone else had this problem?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.3

You should be entitled to a free replacement under warranty.

Mine is past the warranty and bringing it in today. Only in the past few weeks has the power button stopped working. I'm hoping as a longtime Apple customer (computers, phones, Apple TV, etc.) they replace it since its a known issue. How can you live with a phone on a two year contract that can't be powered up and down??

If Apple doesn't do the right thing, I'm going to leave the brand. The 10s of thousands of dollars I've spent over the past three years will be wasted if they can't treat customers well.

*Just to vent my own frustrations for people who are not sure if they are the only ones"

I live in California and I am currently having an issue with my lock button not locking when i press it. I bought 2 iphone 5's back in october and both of them have the same issue. I went to the Fashion Island Apple store in southern california. The technician looked at my phone for 2 minutes and said cause of the scratches he wants to take it to the back to open the phone and look at it. He came back after 5 minutes and said that they cannot repair or touch this phone because its been tampered with.

My phone is still under warranty and I can take a polygraph test to prove that i am not a con artist or in anyway so desperate as to spend the time to tamper with my own phone and then schedule a genius bar appointment after work just to "CON" them for a free phone.

I am a consultant for various companies that have purchased a high dollar amount of apple products. My clients have trusted me with the configuration, transport and troubleshooting of apple products that are a 20 times the cost of this one iphone 5. For me to be accused of fraud and to be treated like a crook was absolutely insulting, especially in a public. I am at the point where i am more interested in proving the flaws in apples own customer service than in actually getting this lock button fixed.

If apple was to say that i tampered with my phone, they should be able to prove it and show me. Now that they taken my phone in the back and i have no clue what they did with it, I question what other things they were doing with my phone in there own back area.

I do have a planned course of action to prove that some of there own staff members do have there own flaws, or a flawed Tamper Policy

Apple needs to understand that when statements like this are made, you are attacking a persons character and without solid proof you have broken a trust system that cannot be healed.

I do not want to purchase apple products and have to chronilogically have to record my issues so that there is no doubt in apples mind that I am honest. I have already paid for there product with my own hard working money and I have never committed any type of fraud at all. I do honest work and the companies i work for can vouch for it. Whether apple is aware of certain employees of theres that do this or not, I dont know. I want all honest customers to know that this is not how anyone should be treated if you follow the strict guidelines of there products warranty service. We should be able to see what they are doing with our phones if they are going to make such a bold claim because there is no way you can go back now and say your phone has never been taken apart.

There is soo much more i want to say but if anyone has any ideas on how I can make my message more clear please feel free to reach out to me.

Have same problem. Apparently it's a manufacture defect. But mine is just two weeks out of warranty and apple store in market mall calgary refused to give me a new one. This is very disappointing. Apple does not treat customers right!!! What should I do next to get my phone fixed or a new iphone5? Anyone has any advice? If they are producing low quality product and expect customers to pay the price it's not fair, especially if this is happening across the board.

As a loyal customer to Apple, I have to say I am very disappointed. One week ago my one-year apple warranty on my iphone expired. One day after expiration, my lock button started to become unresponsive and now it completely doesn't work. I went to the Apple Store at Summit Mall in Akron, Ohio, where they told me there is nothing they can do. IT HAS BEEN ONE WEEK. I am no longer a supporter of Apple because of this. I say this because with my iPhone 4, the home button stopped working a month after the one year warranty was up and they replaced my iphone with no problems at all. It really ****** me off because my phone is in near-perfect condition and the only thing wrong with it is a lock button. AS A COLLEGE STUDENT, I DO NOT HAVE $280 laying around to get my iphone replaced. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN APPLE AND WILL NO LONGER PURCHASE YOUR PRODUCTS. Huge kick in the stomach. Looks like I'll have to use this assitive touch until I can get an upgrade for a NEW BRAND of phone.

Apple provides a 1 year warranty, which you should be well aware of. You've got the chance to purchase AppleCare if you want to extend this and have 2 years of coverage.

Your contract length has NOTHING to do with Apple at all, it's between you and the network. If you don't take out the extra AppleCare coverage then you really cannot complain if something goes wrong outside the 1st year - you had the opportunity to extend your coverage to two years, knowing you had a two year contract but only 1 year of hardware coverage, yet made the (bad) decision not to.

If Apple doesn't do the right thing, I'm going to leave the brand.

Apple will do the right thing, if your inside the 1st year or took out AppleCare, then you can bet that Apple will replace it for you without any fuss.

But if you don't have any coverage, you'll have to pay - just like everyone else. Whether you threaten to 'leave the brand' or not.
