Ios 6.1.4 battery drain

vbuen323--The iPhone 5 has NEVER had this issue since it's been out until 6.1.4. was released. I shouldn't HAVE TO erase my phone to factory settings or reconfigure my mail accounts just to see IF it fixes the battery drainage. The iPhones should work the same or better when updates are released, not worse.

vbune323--tghouri doesn't need to know anything about programming to know why there is a battery drainage. I've done enough testing in my years as well and the one golden rule of testing products is: don't release it to the public until it has been tested thoroughly without any issues. This clearly wasn't the case when 6.1.4. was released. When updates/patches are released whether it is an iPhone, Macbook or even Windows, no one should EVER have to reset their systems to factory defaults to get it to work right with the new update. If you do, that's called ****-poor testing by the vendor.

This is possible because you wiped your phone. Again, we shouldn't HAVE TO wipe our phones to experience the update.

For except, I'm running iOS 6.1.4 on my iPhone 5 16GB.

I don't have the battery issue, my battery life is rather great than bad if you ask me.

My phone is configurated with WiFi, 3G, push mail, and location services all switched on. But most time I'm near a WiFi access point. I never switch of the cellular network when I'm on WiFi. I've switched of bluetooth, because I almost never use it.

You may try to put your iPhone in DFU mode and then a restore without backup.

I agree with Brownbear. I have had iPhones since the 3G, and periodically Apple releases an update that drains a battery too quickly. It's not the user's fault. A patch is generally released a month or so later -- you can tell because if you read the details of the update, it will say something like "Fixes battery issues experienced by some users."

Those of us who are not new to iPhones realize that it's not HOW we are using our iPhones currently (since we kept everything the same) but WHAT the newest version of iOS 6 is doing. That said, I noticed a few differences that might be draining. For instance, I was scared half to death when an weather emergency sound blared on my phone to warn me of flooding in the area. That was new. Sometimes when an update is issued, it resets previous settings or adds new ones. I did notice that my Facebook settings, which I previously took out of my notification center, were back on. Still, if you use Facebook throughout the day, you should not have to disable it just to use your phone in a normal manner. The same holds true for all other notifications.

My guess is that Apple will issue a fix in a few weeks -- too late, in my opinion, but better than nothing.

I just did this on my phone and my wifes phone and I am at 1 hour 55 min at 80%. Phone has been sitting at 80% for an hour! Prior to this both of our phones wouldn't make it through the day without a recharge and get less than 5 hours total. Not sure why this works, but it does for both of our phones. We have had dismal battery life ever since 6.1.4 update.

I am having the very same problem. I do not even use any third party apps; my battery life runs down nearly 6 times quicker after the update than it did before.

Apple engineers must be aware of this issue, but it is possible that this was intended to incentivize purchase of the iPhone 5s.

My phone also gets incredibly hot during calls now, almost to the point that I cannot hold it to my face without burning myself.

I know this may sound like blasphemy on these boards, but I now am likely going to switch over to a Google android smart phone.

It's been a fun ride, Apple, but such tactics are downright deplorable.

Add another user to the battery issue!!! C'mon apple, get a fix out! This battery drain is a problem and needs to be addressed ASAP... My sound and volume control buttons are gone as well...

Add me to the list too... I have LTE, WiFi and Bluetooth all shutoff and I can't get half way through the day. On 6.1.3 I could get almost all the way through the whole day with all of those on, and definitely through the day with one of them off. I'm not upgrading to a new iOS version going forward until I know they have worked the bugs out. This is ridiculous. I've had every iPhone since the original and I'm on my last nerve with Apple right now.

So after my first posting here, I have no battery problems at all. After all I did three things. First one was delete the facebook app and facebook messenger. That made it better but not perfect. Than I did delete and re-add all Mail accounts and then I did a full 100% to 0% discharge and fullcharge.

After that my iphone is back to normal or even better on IOS 6.1.4(cauze of deleted FB app).

So I similarly also had the dreaded 6.1.4 issue, which was compounded by a carrier update.

Try as I might, I was getting 3.5 hours usage or thereabouts, with push email on (linked to 2 exchange servers); however, location services aggressively turned down - so only traffic updates and mobile network search was on. Facebook / Messenger being closed etc.

HOWEVER, I went to apple store as I had dust spot on sensor to do a swap.

When there, they did a diagnostic that showed a faulty battery.

New battery running beautifully to spec - 8hrs or so usage etc.

FOR THOSE WITH BAD BATTERY LIFE - GO TO APPLE STORE AND GET A DIAGNOSITC RUN

Did you reinstall your Facebook / Messenger again?

Or do you just accept a phone not abel to run these?

My friend got on the iOS 7 Beta 2 and it resolved his battery problems. So I did the same thing. Although the Beta 2 is still a bit buggy (the problem I had so far were a single browser crash and my USA Today application crashing, for which I use the web page instead), my battery issues are all gone. I can keep my phone off the charger all day again and I don't have a problem.
