iPad 3 - Doesn't latch to 3G network

I have apple ipad 3 (64GB, black) with cellupar data feature. My problem is strange. As soon as i turn on cellular data, the ipad latches to 2g network with maximum of EDGE signal. Though the operator has 3G service and has activated the 3G in my SIM card my ipad doesnt latch to 3G. After i raised this issue to the operator, they took the live trace of my SIM and found that the ipad is automatically latching to 2G network and not trying the 3G network. Please can somebody advise me what should i do? Is this something to do with IOS?
