The battery life of my iphone 5 will only last 4 hours or less after I updated my software to IOS 6.1.4. Pls help.

Please help! My iphone 5 has a shorter battery life after I had a software update to IOS 6.1.4. It will only last 4 hrs of maximum under moderate used (3G is on for an hour, reading tweets, emails, facebook and sms) I turned off 3G when not in used and kill apps in background. Moreover, my iphone 5 had a problem on "Personal Hotspot" connection. It can't be detected on other devices and if it was "authentication problem" will occur.

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

Hi Kiko!

I understand you are having issues with your battery life, and I have a couple articles that should help you fix that issue. First, this is a general article about the battery in your iPhone and should give you some helpful information so that you can understand how your battery in your iPhone works and how to get the best performance out of it:

Apple - Batteries - iPhone

Next, in order to troubleshoot this issue, I would refer to this article about iPhone hardware troubleshooting:

iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting

Specifically, this is the section of the article you will want to refer to:

Battery life seems short

  1. Click ( www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html) for tips on how to prolong iPhone's battery life.
  2. Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
  3. Connect iPhone to iTunes and restore iPhone.
  4. If the screen shows a low-battery image, the battery is low on power and needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it.
  5. When charging iPhone, make sure to leave it charging until it is fully charged. You'll know the battery is fully charged when the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen looks like this User uploaded file.
Note: When charging using a computer, don't connect iPhone to a keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.

Note: Charging with a FireWire-based power source is not supported, except on original iPhone.

That article will lead you to this article, which walks you through restoring your iPhone:

iTunes: Restoring iOS software

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414

When you have finished restoring the phone, you will want to set it up as a new device instead of restoring from your backup in order to isolate the parts of the software that may have been causing your battery to perform at a less than optimal level. In order to make sure this is done correctly and without any loss of data, you will want to refer to this article, which explains restoring and setting up as a new device:

iOS: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
