Why did my iphone 5 do a factory reset?

I've had my iphone 5 for a few months, for some reason today, my phone made a beeping noise I've never heard and did a complete factory reset. I thankfully have it set up to back up to icloud. Anyone have any ideas on why or suggestions on what I should do?
