I am from Russia and I just bought it in BestBuy. I do the activation via iTunes. But now I start to recive a messages saying "iphone is not Activated contact your carrier at 18009220204..." what does it mean?
In the store I was told that it is a never lock(Sim free) phone. But a Verizon sim card was inside.
So the questions is will it work it Russia?

BestBuy does not sell officially unlocked iPhones. In the US, only Apple sells officially unlocked iPhones. So, your phone is carrier locked, & I believe it is locked to Verizon. However, your sim slot should be unlocked. What happens when you pop in a local sim?
If it had a sim in it then it was more than likely locked to Verizon. Sim Free or unlocked phones do not come with a SIM card.
FYI:
All Verizon iPhone 5's have the sim slot unlocked out of the gate.
Understand that but I bet you won't be able to ever use it on another CMDA network without getting it unlocked.
You couldn't use it on another CDMA network no matter what. There is no such thing as an "unlocked" CDMA phone.
Can a Verizon-model iPhone 5 be activated through another GSM carrier, though, or must it be activated with Verizon first before it could be used with another carrier? That doubt was what prevented me from replying when I first saw this question, and that's really the crux of this issue, I think.

My son's girlfriend purchased a Verizon iPhone 5...without contract, at full price, & activated it on T-Mobile's network. So, the answer is yes.
As to why she did did that...I have no idea. But, the phone works fine & she's happy.
At Russia I have an GSM carrier. Will it work with GSM? Or best solution to give it back to BestBuy and get another one directli from AppleStore?
Is there are any apple online support, where I can ask them about this issue?

Return it & purchase an officially unlocked iPhone from Apple.

It should, yes, but again, you would get no warranty or service from Apple in Russia for a US-sold iPhone

I would strongly recommend that you return it to Best Buy and purchase from Apple or an authorized iPhone reseller in Russia. With Apple now having an online store of their own in Russia, that may be your best option.

Again, the GSM portion of a Verizon-model iPhone 5 is indeed unlocked, and probably can be activated with a GSM carrier other than Verizon, but it's not guaranteed and you will get no support from Apple if you have problems activating a Verizon-model iPhone with a Russian carrier.
