See: iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ

iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.

Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.

If your My Photo Stream exceeds the limit of 1000 photos, the older photos will be deleted from your Photo Stream. for shared Photo streams the limit is higher, see the Photo stream limits: iCloud: Photo Stream limits

If Photo Stream stops uploading, t may be due to exceeding one of the hourly or daily upload limits in the document above . Uploading will resume after some time.

Unfortunately it isn't a problem related to the number of photos. The photo stream is not transferring to the PC. Even if that were the problem, previously although only the 1000 most recent photos stayed on the photo stream on the iPhone, they would all stay on the PC once they transferred to it. The only thing I can do is plug my phone into the PC to transfer photos. Photo Stream is essentially worthless to me at this point. I sure hope a fix comes soon.

Just to reiterate people saying that 'pictures disappear when they're old' is nonsense

Apple allows

- up to 1000 shareable photo streams

- up to 1000 photos in each stream (once you hit 1000 it starts to overwrite oldest first)

- some limits as to how many/fast you can upload at a time/over time

so

what I did

hit 1000 pics

- created new photostream called ps1

- added first 1000 pics from camera roll to ps1

- create new photostream called ps2

- add newer pictures to this

- checked from a different ios device that it all works

- delete pics from camera roll (backed up to 3rd party device obviously)

- upgrade to ios7

marvel at how 999 pictures have suddently vanished from ps1

Same problem here. Then I plugged my phone in, and opened iPhoto on my Mac. When I clicked on Photo stream in iPhoto, it asked me if I wanted to turn on photo streaming. I clicked yes and now it works. It had been working fine until the recent iOS 7 update, just like everyone else. I'm not sure why iPhoto had turned it off, or if the iOS update had anything to do with it, but everyone should check their photo stream setting on their PC/Mac.

I have tried everything .. .

fresh install of iOS 7

turning on/off photostream on 3 devices (ipad 2, iphone 4s x2)

turning on/off photostream on new iMac

Nothing works. I get a different number of photos on all devices. One device gets 300 photos, another caps out at 184 and the iMac is hit or miss.

This is definelty an iOS 7 issue. I have been using photstream since its conception with out an issue until this update.

Having the same issue as others here. Both my iPhone 4s and my 3rd Gen iPad have all the most recent iOS updates. Photostream on my iPhone is the issue. Only have 100 or so now. Tried everything but nothing has worked to re-sync the two devices. Now after the most recent update yesterday, even the photos I take on my iPhone don't necessarily load to Photostream. Some do, others are skipped in the upload. All the settings are correct for photostream to work. Can we get some fix for this, please?!

I've been having the same issue as others on here since the 16th of October. Pictures I take with my 4S din't go to Photo Stream. I can put them in a shared stream from the camera roll like others too.

I've checked all my settings (iOS 7.0.3, OSX 10.9) and photo stream is on my main photo stream just dosen't populate like it did before last week. I've turned photo stream iff and in several times on my iPhone and it only populates with around 160 pictures which were added after I first installed iOS 7 and will not load with any pics added to the camera roll after October 16th. Very strange as my photo stream was 1000 pics before this issue started and worked flawlessly in purging older pics and adding the new.

I've given up on it for now and have gone back to syncing my photos through iPhoto on my iMac.

This worked for me!

1- I backed up phone & photos

2- uninstalled Icloud off PC

3- Uninstalled icloud photos folders - make sure you move your pics to a "safe folder" so you dont lose them- then make sure all the photo stream folders are deleted!

4- I reset the "Reset All Settings" on my Iphone 5,

5- Installed Icloud & set up the photo stream folders etc.

6- Turned on photo stream on my phone 5. It took about 20-30 minutes for photostream to sync pics from my phone to PC.

Everything seems to be working fine now.
