Had this happen awhile back. It is related to the knew Find My iPhone feature on the iPhone 5 (which I'm assuming you have). Call Apple is all I can tell you. You need to turn off Find My iPhone to restore, but the security features of Find My iPhone don't allow you to turn it off. Therefore, you can't restore the phone. It's a loop with no apparent solution. Sorry.
I have an iphone4s the problem started this morning. First all my contacts did not have names only the numbers then when i tried to bring up my messages there is a blank screen. So i connected my phone to my laptop to reestore it and its not happening.
