Why can't I download iOS 7 on my iPod?

I am very frustrated. I just wanted to download some podcasts but apparently MUST download the podcast app requires iOS 7.

So I checked for a software update but my iPod says that there are no updates. I currently have 6.1.6. I saw on here that iOS7 is compatible (mostly) with the iPod touch so why does it not show up for OTA update?

Do I have to download it with my computer?

I just really cannot believe how NOT user friendly this process has been.

The only ipod that has the required hardware to run ios 7 is the 5th gen ipod touch.

Do you have a fifth gen? I suspect that you do not.

Download the podcasts on your computer and sync them to your ipod.

You have a 4G iPod since there was not 6.1.6 for a 5G iPod. As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.

All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB
