That will not work.

As per the Product Information section in the first link you provided (for the lightning to 30 pin adapter):

Apple wrote:

This adapter lets you connect devices with a Lightning connector to many of your 30-pin accessories.* Supports analog audio output, USB audio, as well as syncing and charging. Video output not supported.

Unfortunately there is no way short of buying an HDMI to comppsite converter box to get this to work, and even then there is no guarantee it will work correctly.

I'm not sure how many people this will reach, but without getting too "techy" there is a reason why the iPhone 5 does not support composite output anymore even with a 30 pin converter as Phil above mentioned.

The iPhone 4s and lower models actually had a digital to analog converter chip inside of them that was able to send an analog video signal out through the 30 pin connector to an analog video source like composite video through RCA cables, for example.

When the iPhone 5 was made, that chip was removed and the connector made smaller (the Lightning connector) and sacrifices needed to be made. The use of Lightning removed the sending of analog signals and it essentially became a digital serial port. That is why there are only HDMI and VGA connectors for Lightning because those are digital signals. Though losing analog is a drawback to Lightning, there are many more potential uses for digital signals to outside sources, especially when most digital to analog conversion can be done outside the phone rather than use up resources and battery power inside the phone.

I have successfully hooked my iPhone 5 to my composite RCA input of my car stereo. I did as suggested above. I got the Lightning to HDMI cable which is hooked to an HDMI to Composite converter which then goes to the stereo. The difficult part is getting power to the converter and back to your phone, but it is possible (I believe I bought a 12v to 5v power converter).

I'm glad I found your post since I'm trying to get the best audio out of my iphone5 for my car stereo.

So, do you feel the Lightning Digital AV Adapter --> HDMI to TV Composite RCA the cleanest method, over using a HRT music/micro streamer for example?

Why doesn't apple release a lightning to composite adapter? Or would it contain a DAC chip people would want to by pass as well?

Thanks!

I noticed that an older iPad which had a 30-pin connector couldn’t use a composite adapter after the OS was upgraded. I think this might also be a software issue. It might be that Apple is trying to use this as a form of DRM. And yet, it would be nice to be able to use a composite connection with CRT TVs and old car DVD players which have composite inputs.
