garage band downloads 10.2 gigs of loops and library stuff every time it opens, seems to install it but when re-opened wants to download and install again.

Hello

The problem is as follows;

I start the GarageBand program, a screen presents that asks me to choose a session type, once chosen the requested type is initialized onscreen. Near or about that time in the process a pop=up window presents that states:

" Download Content

the sound or loop you've selected is not currently installed on

your Mac. You are about to download the complete set of

additional content for GarageBand including:

24 sounds and 1,500 loops

17 Drummers and their kits from rock, alternative,

songwriter and R&B genres.

Total download size 5.2 GB."

I press the [continue] button and a new pop-up starts a progress bar and (paraphrasing) says go on about your business.

after awhile a new screen pops asking for my password so that it can install the loops etc.. Giving it permission to install results in a few quick info screens and then one that states it is all installed.

When the program is shut and the re-started, I'm back to a pop-up as described above.

I have re-installed GarageBand

I have re-installed OS X

I have talked to an Apple GarageBand specialist on the phone

Below are my stats and a few lines in the console message that I do not understand but appear might be related.

after all that " ,, the song remains the same .."

Any and all help will be very appreciated

John

To All

Thanks for your help.

I tried many different methods / routes in my attempts to resolve this issue.

Nothing I did resolved this issue, and I spent a LOT of time trying.

I did get to experience frustration and aggravation at levels I have never before been privy to.

So, at least I broadened my scope of things I have experienced.

Next item on that page of the bucket list is a boiling hot coffee enema.

At some point I took stock of the amount of time I had spent on the problem ....

That calculus led to a few choice words ..... then I calmed down and ponied up the $ 200.00 for LogicPro.

So that's how I solved it, I threw money at it. Works every time !!

Good luck to all faced with the same problem.

I tried going back to my earlier version of GarageBand, but when I went into Time Machine all the backups of the program had the crossed-out symbol on them (meaning they wouldn't open) and also, for some reason, had a size of 0K. So the update not only erased my previous install of GarageBand, but also somehow erased all backed-up versions. Fortunately, I still have it installed on two other computers running pre-Yosemite systems, so that's fine. Still a jerk move.

Thanks for the reply,

I had an older version of garage band (6.something) on my hard drive for a potion of my troubleshooting .... adventure.

Prior to throwing in the towel I erased all the contents of my hard drive and then re-installed the OS sans all traces of garage band, including any/all project files I have created, re-installed GB (10.1.0) and attempted the downloads from both regular and safe mode .....

I really gave it a solid shot. And don't forget that all of this happened while I still had the 90 day warranty going, ie: getting on the phone with a dedicated "GarageBand Engineer" was both quick and easy (thanks especially to Oz)

My "lesson learned" ? *

Nobody at Apple knows why this happens. Lacking a disseminable solution, they are instructed to not acknowledge the problem.

Check the net, a lot of people are having the same issue.

Speaking only for myself, I would rather be told there is a problem and Apple is working to solve it than go through the "OK, lets try this" loop.

But hey, thats just me.

Have fun,

D

* Apple or any smart Apple programing people: A CLUE FOR YOU.

After spending a lot of time on this I am not convinced that the loops and content are not installing. I suspect that whatever code tells the program the content is already installed is not communicating that message to the rest of the program. or some variant of that.

Just a hunch. I was not able to find information that would answer that question prior to deciding to purchase LogicPro.
