Wanting to watch films with my AirPod Pro2 in an airplane, I bought a Bluetooth transmitter. AirPod does connect to the transmitter, but no sound. I checked the transmitter with a Bose BT speaker - works fine. How come Apple sells $300 earphones that does not operate properly with non-Apple devices ?

have no issue with sound these non-Apple devices Dell laptop/pc, so earphones works properly
Yes I read that they do work properly with Android devices too. However not with many BT transmitters ...
