How do I open .emix files from 2008 on my newer Mac?

I am trying to open old email files that were sent using the old Apple Mail. They have been stored as .emix files and they show content when selected in the Finder but none when the file is opened. I've tried using different extensions but nothing works. Any ideas?

I retrieved these files from a folder on a storage hard drive in a file named 'Mail folder from iMac 9-7-10' > POP-l**@pop.comcast.net > 'Sent Messages.mbox > Messages. When I select them in the finder they show content but then when I double click to open them there is no content. How do I import them back into Mail?

Whether they will or will not import I don't know. They should.

The Import Mailboxes… command is in the File Menu.

Choose Apple Mail as the type of files to import. You can likely just select the folder that holds them all.

I don't think it will decode any attachments you import (at least it didn't in the past). There are ways to decode Base64 if you need to do that manually.
