MacBook Pro (2016) is unresponsive after updating to Monterey

My 13" 2016 MacBook Pro uses Monterey as its latest software. Recent update caused it to become completely unresponsive. Apple store took MacBook off power and disconnecting battery allowing reboot and MacBook works fine again. Tried to update again with fresh download and same thing happened. Completely unresponsive. Anyone else having same issues?

What is your definition of fresh?

Did you erase and install the OS? I.e. just run command-R and erase the partition and run the installer?

Did you install on top of third party apps already were installed, or third party drivers that did not come with the OS?

Did you use the migration assistant to bring over applications from a really old OS?

If either of the latter 2 are true, and your data is backed up, you really should try 1. Some third party software or drivers may be incompatible. Don't try to use any optimizers, anti-virus tools, or anything that does third party firewall or VPN unless you are on a business that depends on VPN. Use incognito mode on websites you want to protect from monitoring you.
