How do I authorize my MacBook Air for Music?

My problem is simple. I am unable to authorize my MacBook to listen and download purchased music. I have tried many times and been told that I have hit the limit and need to reauthorize a device but I cannot do that either. I follow the steps but the option to view them is not available. I do not know what to do and need help.
