It doesn't have the aluminium band around it and it's not a braided cable, according to the person on chat support I've got an SE charger. I've been online and on the phone for over 2 hours trying to sort this and originally advised to drive to the Apple Store and swap it out!!! I want this resolved properly, I've spoken to a senior advisor who passed me to the sales team but I've been on the call
for 70 minutes and no answer.
Correct, both will even work with the newest models.
However, if you buy a refurbished Apple Watch 9 from the Apple Online Store, it should come, as advertised, with the fast charging USB-C cable.

The Apple Watch 9 has the fast charging USB-C cable, older Apple Watches had the Magnetic Charging Cable.
If you take a closer look, the USB-C is braided, the other one not. You can also see the different shape of the cable at the charging puck.

The only difference in Apple Watch charging cables is what is on the end where you plug them into the wall or computer. The earlier ones have a USB-A end. Current ones have USB-C. Other than that, they are the same. There is no special cable for the Watch SE.

Thanks all, the problem has been sorted, Apple sent the proper charger and allowed me to keep the one they sent in error.
