Macbook Air m2 hdmi sound output

I use a MacBook Air M2 2023, and when I connect it to HDMI, the sound output doesn't work. I change the settings in Preferences to Sound Output - HDMI, but when I do, the video fast-forwards at a very high speed with a cracking sound, like x20. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Try and restart the Mac to see if the issues persist

you also want to see if the issues persist in the safe mode. If they don't persist in safe mode, the issues are caused by an external piece of software, please evaluate the software installed to your Mac

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
Select a volume.
Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.
