The most certain way to tell is only buy them from Apple. People who are good at making fakes are going to use real serial numbers. You can check serial numbers but if it's a real one then you won't know if the device itself is fake.

One way i can think of is you can check by connecting it to your mac, if it is original it will show the manufacture as apple only.

Take it to Apple and ask them to tell you. A serial number alone won't tell you.
Good point! Going to System Information > Hardware > Power > AC Charger Information, does provide the manufacturer. An original adapter would have "Apple, Inc." in the Manufacturer field.
So, unless a third-party has a means to mimic this setting, this would be a good indication that the adapter is an original Apple device, or not.
To answer your question directly: no, you cannot verify their authenticity by a serial number.
