I am not able to share a song that I downloaded onto my phone a while ago. This song was not purchased through Apple Music. Why won’t my iPhone allow me to share - the three dots under which the share option appears does not come up.

Not sure what you mean by "share." If the song is in the iTunes Store you can gift a copy to your friend: Gift apps, media, and more from Apple - Apple Support
Thanks. It’s not actually from the iTunes Store. I think it’s on a song uploaded from a CD to a computer to an iPod long ago and now on an iPhone.
If you can see it in the Files app on the phone you can use the Share button from there.
Can I share a song that I paid for?
