What’s happening here? I need a full explanation. How do I go about finding out what is going on and why?
Now that Apple ID is used across the board having this happen with zero explanation or recourse is a major catastrophe.
I would really appreciate any help as this is a critical situation for and huge interruption, impacting more than just me.

Tom, have you tried to login to iCloud.com to see if your access is available?
Considering that your login credential provides you complete access to this community, that helps isolate this alarming concern.
If your Apple ID was locked, then you wouldn’t be able to login to this community or iCloud.com whatever.
Try logging into the Apple ID portal to see if anything else appears.
I’m just trying to help isolate this issue to see if you can access your personal content from all your devices.

Hello~ Is it locked or asking for password reset? I know this was an issue for some a bit back.

The Apple ID was locked. This did not happen in either the App Store or iTunes. I booting into a Ventura volume on my Mac. It said I had to update my Apple information. It asked for the password for my Apple ID. I entered it and got the message that it was locked.

I tried logging in without using Touch ID and it said it was locked. I succumbed and changed it on my phone. Now I have to update about 15 systems and all my devices.
On two Macs.
It’s happened now on another computer with a Ventura system. I was updating the system and after reboot I had to update my Apple ID information. Why would it have to update the Apple ID information after an OS install. That makes on sense. The system was fully logged in with my Apple ID and the system was updated. It shouldn’t need further verification on the same system.
Thanks. Not entirely sure how the log works, if it calls up the Apple ID and password, but on my Mac and mobile devices I can log in with Touch ID or Face ID and it's automatic. The only place I think you can't do that is in system settings. If I force it to use the password, it says it's locked.
What device? I’ve had this happen on mobile devices (iPad and iPhone) before. Sometimes it’s a more obscure service such as FaceTime.
