Why is WhatsApp asking for a credit card on iPhone?

I am trying to update my whatsapp but everytime i go to update. It says that there is a billing issue and wants me to enter a credit card info. I do not have any credit card on my phone but it keeps saying there is a billing issue. How can this be resolved.
