Mail on Macbook Air

I have been a mac user for more 20+ years or more and have never ever had issues with email until now. I have a brand new computer bought in December of this past year 2023 and am having so many issues with mail. Today I had a very important email saved in drafts on one of my email accounts, and when I went to review it this morning before hitting send, I noticed a small typo. I clicked on the error to correct it and the whole email just disappeared ! I have tried everything. I did NOT hit delete, and it is not to be found in any deleted folder, junk mail, sent mail, or drafts. Any ideas anyone ? Thank you for any help or advice you can give me !
