Trying to play music to multiple devices in Mac OS Sonoma doesn't work for me like it used to.

Back in the days of Mac OS Monterey it was quite easy to output sound to several devices, the host computer, and Home Pod… just select devices from a list. Now in Sonoma, supposedly a more advanced system, it’s impossible for me to do so. And no, the Multi-Output Device setting that’s hidden, lord knows why, in the Audio Midi Setup, doesn’t allow me to play through my device and my Home Pod simultaneously. Why? How to fix?
