Iphone Insurance

I am getting an iphone this weekend and called my insurance company (usaa) to see if they could insure it being that its $400. They said they cant put it on my homeowner's insurance and I asked them if this has come up before and they said only one other person has called them about it which sounds made up. Anyways, I have researched some other insurance options like square trade. If anyone that is using square trade could tell me about what they cover or if they have dropped their iphone and had to deal with them that would be awesome. Or if anyone has gone with another insurance company which ones? And does the apple warranty automatically come with the phone? And what does it cover?
Thanks!

I have homeowners and vehicle insurance with USAA and I did call them about iPhone insurance so they may have been referring to me. USAA offers no special insurance for a device such as the iPhone so is covered with your contents insurance under your homeowner's policy and standard deductible applies.

The iPhone includes a standard one year warranty from the purchase data and you can purchase an AppleCare extended warranty which adds an additional year to the standard warranty coverage. This is not insurance.

I'm not familiar with squaretrade, but I have my iPhone insured through Country Companies. It's added as a rider to my existing policy. It covers loss, theft, liquid and physical damage. There is only a $50 deductible if the phone is stolen, otherwise it is replaced at no charge. It's currently costing me $21 a year, but that's becuase I keep forgetting to lower the value to $400. I imagine it would be a little less than that. Very reasonable.

I just purchased a 16GB iPhone a week ago, and just went into my State Farm agent this afternoon and added a rider to my homeowner's policy. The only restriction that they had was that now cell phones have to have a value of at least $400 to be insured. I guess the pay out was too much for some of the others. I also cover my laptop, GPS and other portable electronics. I'm not sure of the cost right now, they will bill me later. The cost wasn't an issue for me, but when I had it before I think it was only around $30/year.

Hope this helps you.

Allan,
When i picked up my iphone on Saturday, my father, who was reluctant to purchase it because of the no insurance, asked the salesman if he had any. He said he has it from USAA and we both looked it each other funny. He further explained that he told USAA his iphone was a "computer accessory." It is $8 a month and a $100 deductable. Who knows if they will buy it when you tell them your computer accessory broke or was stolen, but it's better than nothing. It is technically a computer accessory because data from your computer is on your iphone. And you can also insure all your computer(s) while your at if you have not.

No. And what is worse, ATT does not offer any. I have always considered cell phone insurance reasonable option and had it back in the days of my Sprint Palm Phone. Further ATT does not offer it on RIM phones either. This is a major change in Cellular telephone policy, which leaves a device as easily lost or damaged as a cell phone completely unprotected unless you have a home-owners policy which has a provision for such portable losses. See this and be sure to download the excluded products: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/basics/choosing-features-services/wireless-ins urance.jsp Suddenly the iPhone seems a whole lot less attractive to me. Simply put if ATT is going to rely on Apple for support and service (as well they should given the tight reign Apple has placed on ATTs ability to control the phone), Apple really needs to pick up the ball and offer the loss and damage insurance one the providence of the wireless service providers. I would certainly be willing to pay a higher AppleCare premium for the confidence I could use my iPhone like a real cellphone without fear of losing such a major investment.

AT&T's insurance company, Asurion, will not cover PDA phones (except the Blackberry Pearl & Blackjack basicaly).

Do you know if squaretrade.com will cover insurance ONLY on the iPhone for accidental damage?

I have USAA Renter's & Car insurance but I don't think they cover lost/stolen so I'm looking for an insurance company that will cover either both physical damage & being lost/stolen. OR I'm looking to cover it by 2 companies, one that will cover lost/stolen and one that will cover physical damage.
