iPad accessory firmware update failure

Connected a brand new USB3 (charging) camera adapter accessory to a 9th gen iPad. A window popped up proposing a firmware upgrade. I clicked install and nothing happened. Removed and installed the accessory several times and rebooted the iPad to no avail.

Decided to install the camera adapter on an iPhone and the same firmware window appeared. Clicked install and another window popped up requesting confirmation of the Installation followed by an installation progress report.  The firmware changed from 1.0.1 to 1.0.5. Installed it in the iPad and it was fully recognized.

Then I recalled that the iPad was under a Do Not Disturb Focus. Could that be the issue that prevented the second window sent by the cloud server (requesting the confirmation) to appear?

Someone understanding Focus protocol restrictions please comment.
