I have an iPhone 11 (I think) with an Apple ID account that no longer exists. It needs a software update as well. How can I reset or clear this phone so I can start over with MY information, instead of the previous owners?

What do you mean previous owner?
My ex used to use this phone. I do not know his Apple ID password, nor does he and he no longer uses this Apple ID or the phone. In order to reset the phone, I need his password. I’m trying to see how the phone can be reset without having access to that info.

He would need to do forgot apple id and password, otherwise the phone will be useless as you will run into icloud activation lock.
How do I reset an iPhone 11 with an old Apple ID?
