Protected Music in iMovie

I have created several iMovies before on my iMac.  I am now trying to create another one.  I have added a couple songs to my library.  When I went to Audio in the iMovie to add music the songs I have recently added are no where to be found in the selections.  The songs are showing up in my iTunes library however. I did purchase the songs through iTunes but they are still not showing up in my selection of songs to use.  However, on my iPhone I made an iMovie and I was able to select the songs I recently purchased and downloaded in audio selections.  I read that I need to purchase the songs through iTunes as to not get the protected version that you get through Apple Music subscription, but it’s still not working. I appreciate any advice! Thank you!
