Getting "not enough iCloud storage" pop up on my iPhone even after buying extra storage.

I bought more iCloud storage, the 50gb plan and I have a 64gb phone but I'm still getting the 'not enough iCloud storage' pop up. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for the help.
