Found an iPod … keen to send back to the owner.

I found an iPod. Is there a way to tell who the owner is from the serial number?

No.

However, if the iPod is not locked, it may contain information about the owner in the Settings. For example, a 2nd gen iPod Touch can have the owner's email address in the Settings. Go into Settings and if there is a name just below the Search bar, tap it. Ity may have the owner's email address in there and you could email the owner in an attempt to return the device.

If you cannot find anything on the iPod that may help you, your remaining suitable options are to turn the iPod into the authority at the appropriate place, according to where you found it:

  • in the street - to the police station nearest to the location that you found it
  • a public building (swimming pool, library, etc.) - to the staff at the building
  • in a restaurant, cafe, shop etc. - to the store's manager
  • railway or bus station - to their Lost Property Office
  • an airport - to the Lost Property Office of the airport or to a check-in desk or suitable authority at the airport

Apple will not help you.
