With Sonoma I can't get Spotlight to search within specific folders. It just comes up with 0 items.
But if I search the entire computer "This Mac" everything will show up.
E.g. in the attached screenshot, the folder "Caroline" is full of files named "Buckt".
But once they've been found, selecting the folder it's just found them in comes back with 0 items.
Rebuilding the Spotlight index makes no difference.
I have a folder on my Desktop named Images. It contains a file named IMG_0025.JPG. Here is the Spotlight query that reveals that image from a 🔍 menu bar query:
(kind:folder OR name:images) OR (kind:jpeg name:img_0025)
I have this image in two locations and thus, two images result from the query. The first image is in the above Images folder.
Try this,
Finder > Settings > Advanced.
Change the option at the bottom of this window, "When performing a search:" to Search the Current Folder.
