Uploading from iTunes to iPhone takes way too long

Why does it take so long to upload songs from iTunes to my iPhone. It appears to be sluggish in copying diagnostic information stage. This was unchecked in iTunes and there doesn't appear to be an option to do so on the current iOs for the iPhone.
