How can I fix the disappeared accent menu on my Mac (Sonoma)?

The accent menu which used to show up on my Mac (Sonoma) has disappeared. Just up and went on walkabout one day. I can't seem to find how to fix it. I want to especially use the macron.

Open the Terminal app (in the Applications > Utilities folder and execute this command (you copy and paste it):

defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true

Reboot the Mac and the popup accent menu should once more be available when you long press a key.
