When is Scanning available for a MFP?

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to understand what exactly causes a network attached MFP to appear in MacOS (Settings and Image Capture) as a scanning-capable device.

I am trying to add a Konica Minolta bizhub c258 to a M1 MacBook, so that the user can both print documents and scan directly from Image Capture.

From what I have found so far: only when adding it as a Bonjour device is the scanning functionality accessible. If added via the "IP" tab of the "Add Printer" dialog, Printing is all you get.

If that's true, then my question is: What is the recommended process to configure a MFP in a SME environment on a portable personal device?

Until now, I've always preferred configuring devices manually, i.e. using static IP adresses, but maybe that is an antiquated approach. Adding a scanner using this approach seems to be impossible.

Thanks everybody for your input!

Regards,
