Can the Airport Extreme be updated to support VLans?

I am just about to go by a ZyWall device, but before I do that I would like to know if Apple has plans to add VLan to the local ethernet ports. I would like to segment my network. Or, maybe I have missed something and Apple has that feature now!

Remote VPN endpoint would be nice too!

Anyone using IPv6 on the Extreme yet?

Unfortunately, no one on a user-to-user support forum will have inside knowledge of what a notoriously secretive company like Apple may or may not do in the future.

And, even if someone might have "heard something", the Terms of Use Agreement for this area.....which we all "signed"......does not allow us to discuss future products or software, unless they have been officially announced by Apple.

The Extreme does (sort of) use VLANs, but not for the local Ethernet ports (it uses them for the guest network). IPv6 works with the Extreme, I have tried it but it offers no advantage if your ISP is like mine and doesn't support IPv6.

For VLANs you could consider purchasing a web smart switch like the Netgear GS108T which I have been eyeing for a while.

However, as Bob said, no-one has got any idea what plans Apple has for the Extreme. It's core (geddit?) is notoriously secretive (recall the Think Secret affair).
