EtreCheck version: 5.6.5 (5229) Report generated: 2021-01-02 17:51:48 Download EtreCheck from https://etrecheck.com Runtime: 2:42 Performance: Excellent Sandbox: Enabled Full drive access: Disabled Problem: Computer is restarting Description: I have a 2016 MacBook Pro 13" Thunderbolt 3 version running Catal ina 10.15.7. The MBP spends most of its time as a desktop computer lin ked to a fairly ancient 27" Apple Cinema Display via a Caldigit U SB-C dock 206/17 vintage (now superseded). I also run an Apple USB Sup erDrive from the Caldigit. This set up has run entirely reliably for several years until a few da ys ago when I started getting recurrent kernel panics and subsequent r estarts very frequently (5 to 30 minutes apart.) These stopped occurri ng when I unhooked the MBP from the Caldigit leading me to think that that it was the Caldigit that was at fault. However when I plug the MB P into the mains via the standard power adapter the problem recurs, le ading me to think it is something to do with the Thunderbolt ports. Other things I have tried/done are: Swapping the cable around different Thunderbolt ports but it makes no difference Downloading the latest Catalina security update. This seemed to take l onger than I expected with a number of screen outages prior to it comp leting. I had the MBP running on the power adapter during the update b ut subsequently withdrew it whereupon the update completed. I have dis covered an update crash log in the diagnostics folder which I am inclu ding Starting up in recovery mode and running disk first aid over my hard d rive (completed successfully but seemed to identify various issues) The problem didn't seem to related to any software update or other *** figuration change that I am aware of. Also worth mentioning is that even in the brief periods when the MBP i s running and attached the Caldigit I no longer can access the etherne t port, whereas ethernet is reliably available via my Belkin ethernet to USB-C adapter when plugged into one of the MBP's Thunderbolt port. Major Issues: Anything that appears on this list needs immediate attention. Runaway process - A process is using a large percentage of your CPU. Minor Issues: These issues do not need immediate attention but they may indicate future problems or opportunities for improvement. No Time Machine backup - Time Machine backup not found. Unsigned files - There are unsigned software files installed. Apple has said that unsigned software will not run by default in a future version of the operating system. System modifications - There are a large number of system modifications running in the background. 32-bit Apps - This computer has 32-bits apps will not work on current versions of the operating system. Limited drive access - More information may be available with Full Drive Access. Kernel extensions present - This computer has kernel extensions that may not work in the future.
